RE: question to those using MOK with verizon cell

If you do not buy your aircard from Verizon you do NOT have to sign up for a 1 or 2 year contract. I've called and verified with Verizion three times. The local stores say "that's not possible" but I don't think so. I just signed up for a data plan using my Motorola E815 EVDO phone, but am planning on getting an Aircard on Ebay. Cost will be about the same as getting it from Verizon with contract and rebates. I can go month to month that way. I called yesterday and CS said I can transfer to the aircard at any time with no contract.
I just want to correct my previous statement. When I got ready to activate my card purchased on eBay, I was informed that I have to sign a 1 or 2 year contract...period. The card requires it's own line and every new line requires a contract regardless of who provides the equipment. They claim that what they told me was I can SWITCH from my phone to the card with no contract. But that means I couldn't use the phone as a phone. Yeah right. Sorry if I mislead anyone else here.
I did learn that you can turn on and off tethered access as needed. It only takes a few minutes so if you don't want to incur a full $59 a month fee, turn it on for how long you need it say a week or so, and then turn it off.
With all the class action lawsuits in progress against Verizon and others about these ridiculous and unfair early termination fees I'm sure the policy will change. I just need to be patient.

RE: wireless modem for usb 720 verizon

Kinda off topic. Went looking on Verizon for an air card found this.
http://cache.vzw.com/images_b2c/phones/mini/air_595.jpg
Verizon AirCard 595
* Typical download speeds average 600–1400 kbps based on our network tests with 5 MB FTP data files, without compression. Typical upload speeds average 500–800 Kbps. Actual speeds and coverage may vary. If usage exceeds 5 GB/line/month, we reserve the right to reduce throughput speeds to a maximum of approximately 200 Kbps.
That sucks!!
I saw that too but it's old information. Until a few months ago Verizon advertised that the wireless broadband was "unlimited use". Apparently it was "unlimited" until you used too much and then they would just drop your account. After being highly criticized in various locations they have dropped the "unlimited" from the descriptions and state that it is 5gb per month.

RE: Child Seat in Class A MH

My 2000 Coachman class C has a barrel chair that faced sideways. It can I unbolted it and rotated it 90 degrees so it faced forward. Until my son was 1 year old, his car seat was mounted rear facing and then after that it mounted it forward facing. There is a tether strap that goes from the top down to the base of the barrel chair. My problem is he is now four and outgrowing it. The vehicle doesn't have any shoulder harnesses except in the front seats. There is no place or use for a booster seat.

RE: Towing an 2004 Honda CRV without using a "chipped" key

Sort of in the same line as this thread: Has anyone EVER heard of a toad being stole while attached to the MH?
Good point, we've towed it for four years with no problems. But when I hit the odds, I'd prefer it be a winning lottery ticket rather than the only guy who had a toad stolen. ;)

RE: Towing an 2004 Honda CRV without using a "chipped" key

I can't remove my roarmaster base with the bar across and locked, But why not have an extra key and lock the car??
That is what I usually do but a thief can just break a window.
By the way locking a Honda with a key in the ignition is tricky, they have designed it so you don't lock your keys in the car unless you really want to.

RE: Towing an 2004 Honda CRV without using a "chipped" key

Went through the same considerations with an 06' CRV. You need to start the engine to go through the required shift pattern and it's pretty hard to pull the key without returning to Park, so you need something to start the engine and leave there regardless. Additionally, if you have tow bar locks it becomes a non-issue unless they steal the entire coach.
I have a Blue Ox tow bar, and the Honda has removable tabs. Even if I use locking pins, you can just twist the tabs 90 degrees and the car is free.

Towing an 2004 Honda CRV without using a "chipped" key

I just bought two replacement "chipped" keys and had them cut at the dealership. I had them program one and not the other. I was hoping that I would be able to put the non-programmed key in the ignition, hold the programmed key next to it and start the car. This does not work, the car cranks but does not start.
Anyone doing anything like this for an 04 Honda CRV or similar vehicle? I know this how they get remote starters to work, by placing a chipped key under the dash.
I would prefer to tow using this non-programmed key to make stealing the toad a lot harder than disconnecting, hopping in, and driving away.
Thanks
EDIT: ------------------------------------
I failed to mention, towing a Honda CRV requires a specific procedure which requires
Key In IgnitionStart carPull gearshift lever to LowMove to 2Move to DriveLeave in Neutral.Run engine for two-three minutes Turn key back to first position and leave key in ignition
Because you must leave the car in neutral by moving it from drive, rather than park/reverse and you must run the engine, you need a key that can start the car for this procedure. If you us a key that just unlocks the ignition you can't run the engine for two minutes. Of course a key that can start the car would work for a thief as well.

RE: 12v TV converter box?

I'm assuming like most small electronic devices (EX. answering machines, cordless phones, computer routers, etc) they will have a "wall wart" transformer that converts the 110V AC to a lower DC voltage. The transformer will have a small label with the input and output voltage.

12v TV converter box?

Got my coupons, and looked here to see what everyone is buying. Does anyone know if any of these boxes run on 12 volts? I have a inverter that runs the front TV for dry camping (rare) or watching TV while traveling. Of course while moving, the antenna is down and so we watch DVDs or tape. I can of course plug the converter box into the inverter but it seems stupid to convert 12v DC to 110AC, for the box to convert back to DC.

RE: Class C: Extreme Heat in Cab

My conclusion is that we are not getting enough air circulation under the hood and across the engine and transmission.
ls That was my thought as well. It seems you should be able to direct airflow over the engine and around the doghouse to keep it cooler. Having to direct the AC to your feet would mean not sending it to the back of the RV. When we travel, it just me and the dog riding shotgun up front. Everyone else is back on the couch or a barrel chair.

RE: Laptop connected to LCD TV resolution..

You shouldn't have to resize your photos. Assuming you have Windows XP on your laptop: attach the s-video cable, go to control panel->display. See if you have two icons for monitors, one labeled 1 and the other 2. If so, 2 will represent the TV. Click it and check the box for "extend my windows desktop to this monitor". You should be able to set it's resolution independently of the laptop's LCD. Check your TV's manual to see what resolutions it supports. If your pictures are 1600x1200 that is 4/3 ratio like a normal TV. If your LCD is a wide screen, your going to have black bars on the sides of the picture, because a wide screen is 16/9 format. What software are you using show the slide shows?

RE: Laptop connected to LCD TV resolution..

Forget the s-video connection, go with DVI/HDMI, or VGA connection. Then set the resolution to the LCD's native settings for the clearest picture.... He would have to have a DVI/HDMI output on his laptop. If he were to use VGA, the TV would have to have VGA in.

RE: Mounting LCD TV

If the cabinet has a door, you may be able to mount it using a flat style mount such as this one. Then you can open the door, and have the space inside for storage. If you cabinet is open you may be able to use an under cabinet mount such as this one. mounted to the inside top of the cabinet. If that won't work this ceiling mount might work. This link should show different styles made by Sanus one of the larger makers of TV mounts

RE: Wifi? password protected?

Look at the router, and reply with the model number. I'll try to find a tutorial online. Also does your laptop have Windows XP?
